The car’s story
Production of the VAZ-2112 began in 1999. Compared with the VAZ-2110 saloon, the hatchback offered improved handling thanks to its body being shortened to 4,170 mm. The designers also improved its road manners, benefiting ride comfort. All trim levels had a rear spoiler with an integrated brake light on the tailgate. It improved aerodynamics and passive safety and gave the car a sportier appearance.
The VAZ-2112 had a smaller luggage compartment, but folding the rear seats could increase its capacity considerably. A rear backrest split into two independently folding sections was an unusual feature for the Volga automobile plant.
The hatchback’s engine range included 1.5- and 1.6-litre units with eight and sixteen valves. The model was also known as the Lada 112. From 2008, the VAZ-2112 was assembled at the Ukrainian company Bogdan.
