GAZ-M21G Volga 1956

The first Volga, designated GAZ-21G, had only its own body and interior; the remaining components, including the side-valve engine and manual gearbox, came from the GAZ-M20 Pobeda. This simplified repairs and required no additional knowledge of new assemblies from mechanics.

Older parts were used because the necessary materials and components were unavailable.

This version was produced in the first half of 1957, until July. Its 2.43-litre engine developed 65 hp. Early GAZ-21Gs had the Pobeda's rear axle; only in summer 1957 did installation of a GAZ-12 hypoid axle with shortened half-shafts begin.
