The car’s story
The four-wheel-drive Porsche Cayenne crossover was first unveiled in December 2002, with US sales beginning in 2003. This scale model represents the original pre-facelift 2002 car in Cayenne S specification.
The Cayenne Turbo badge on the tailgate is misleading, but the exterior trim and wheels make it easy to identify the car as a Cayenne S.
The frame of Porsche’s first off-roader, with its longitudinally mounted engine, came from the Volkswagen Touareg, while Porsche fully controlled the design and production of the remaining components at the Leipzig plant. The 4.5-litre V8 (4,511 cc) produced 340 hp at 6,200 rpm. Top speed was 242 km/h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h took 6.8 seconds. The Cayenne S featured fully independent, coil-sprung double-wishbone suspension at all four wheels and permanent four-wheel drive with a transfer case and a lockable centre differential.
