ZAZ 968A 1973

There are plenty of Zaporozhets scale models in my collection. For this 1973 ZAZ 968A, let us look at its main differences from the 968M. The easiest way to distinguish them is by the rear lights: round on the 968A, and newer, improved rectangular units on the 968M.

The dashboard and engine cooling arrangement also changed. On the 968M, cooling air entered through a grille in the engine lid; small pressed ventilation openings replaced the 968A's large air intakes.

The spare wheel moved from the 968A's luggage compartment into the 968M's engine bay, to the right of the engine. The ZAZ-968A has much more chrome, but the newer 968M gained two-speed windscreen wipers. It could also take 45–60 hp engines equipped with a DAAZ carburettor from VAZ Zhiguli cars.
