IZH-2126 Orbita Auto Legends of the USSR

The IZH-2126 had an extraordinary fate. It reached the production line twenty years after development began, by which time it was thoroughly outdated and had been renamed Oda. Series production was established in 1997–1998, but small-scale assembly of the Orbita had begun in 1990, with around 100 incomplete cars sold to factory employees. IZH-2126 production ended in 2005 because it was unprofitable. Around 5,000 saleable examples were assembled in total.

The Orbita used the UZAM-331.10 engine: a 1.5-litre, carburetted inline four with overhead valves and 72 hp. Top speed was 148 km/h and payload capacity 400 kg. The designers managed to fit an interior comparable in size to a Volga’s within the exterior dimensions of a Moskvich.
