The car’s story
The Koenigsegg CC8S was the idea of Swedish engineer Christian von Koenigsegg. He dreamed of building a road-going sports car with Formula One performance, and succeeded. The first example of the two-seater with a rear-mid-mounted engine was shown in 1995. The first production CC8S reached its customer after the 2002 Geneva Motor Show.
Its compact 4.7-litre V8, fitted with a supercharger and heat exchanger, produced 655 hp at 6,800 rpm and 750 Nm at 5,000 rpm. Titanium, a special aerospace aluminium alloy and carbon fibre kept engine weight to just 240 kg. The gearbox had six speeds with sequential operation. The CC8S reached 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 390 km/h.
One distinctive feature was the removable carbon-fibre roof, which easily converted the coupé into an open car. A dedicated storage space for it was provided under the bonnet.
