The car’s story
The Murciélago supercar combines Italian spirit with German reliability and practicality. Belgian designer Luc Donckerwolke styled the car. It features adjustable aerodynamic elements, the main one being a spoiler that changes its angle with speed: from 30° at up to 130 km/h to 70° above 220 km/h. The second element is located behind the doors: engine-cooling air intakes with a variable opening area.
The car was unveiled in 2001 at the foot of Mount Etna in Sicily. A notable feature of the Murciélago is the absence of a complete aluminium monocoque. Its floor is made of carbon fibre, its roof of steel and its frame of high-strength steel tubing. The adjustable elements described above allow the drag coefficient to vary between 0.33 and 0.36.
