The car’s story
Introduced in 1905, the Laurin & Klement Voiturette A is described as the first Czech car in history. It was shown at the Prague Motor Show and became a public favourite. Strong sales brought success to a company that had previously made motorcycles. Forty-four cars were built over two years. Each cost 3,600 crowns, considered a fairly affordable price.
Outwardly, the Voiturette A resembled other cars of its era, but there were engineering differences. Instead of the usual chain drive, it used a propeller shaft. Power came from a water-cooled V-type engine. Displacing 1,005 cc, it produced 7 hp and took the car to 40 km/h.
