The car’s story
The T-26 light tank has 15 mm armour on the hull sides, front and rear, 10 mm on the roof, 6 mm on the floor and 6–15 mm on the turret. It was based on a design from the British company Vickers-Armstrong that had not interested the British military. On 28 May 1930, a contract was signed to build 15 twin-turret Vickers Mk.E mod.A tanks for the USSR. Assembly of the Soviet version began at the Bolshevik factory in Leningrad, later Factory No. 174. The first ten production tanks of the initial batch rolled off the line in the summer of 1931.
The 1933 T-26 used a four-cylinder carburetted inline T-26 engine with horizontally arranged cylinders. This air-cooled Armstrong Siddeley-type engine had a displacement of 6,600 cc and produced 90 hp at 2,100 rpm.
Crew: 3; combat weight: 9.4 tonnes. Maximum speed: 31 km/h on roads and 15 km/h cross-country. Range: 140 km on roads and 80 km cross-country.
Main armament: a 45 mm 20K gun of the 1932 or 1934 model and a 7.62 mm DT machine gun of the 1929 model. Ammunition: 136 gun rounds and 2,898 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition in a tank without a radio; 96 gun rounds and 2,898 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition in a radio-equipped tank.
