The car’s story
When production of the 2107 was approved, it was intended to continue and replace the upmarket line represented by the “Three” and “Six”. The car was given a more distinctive appearance than the VAZ-2105, while its interior was luxurious for its time. Head restraints integrated into the tall seat backs played an important part in that impression. An oil-pressure gauge and a tachometer were added to the instrument panel.
The first “Sevens” left the assembly line in 1982; production was still continuing when the original description was written. From 2002, assembly was established at ZAZ, LuAZ and KrASZ in Ukraine. Assembly also began in Egypt in 2006 and in the Chechen Republic in 2008.
The model twice marked a production milestone: a VAZ-2107 was VAZ’s seven-millionth car in August 1982 and its eight-millionth in January 1984.
