VAZ 2110

A VAZ-2110 prototype was built in 1989, with production planned for 1992. Economic difficulties delayed it: pre-production cars appeared only in 1995, followed by full production in 1996.

By then its styling and technology were dated, yet it marked a new stage for AvtoVAZ and the Russian car industry.

The 2110 gained electronic engine management, an immobiliser, adjustable steering column, trip computer, ventilated brake discs and galvanised parts. Provision was made for electric windows, heated front seats, air conditioning and power steering. It offered relatively good aerodynamics and a large boot.

One theory suggests the Audi 80 inspired the front-wheel-drive saloon, based on minor similarities in certain design details.
