The car’s story
The Ferrari 166 MM convertible was unveiled at the 1948 Turin Motor Show. The letters MM honoured Ferrari’s victory in the 1948 Mille Miglia, while 166 indicated the displacement of each cylinder. It wore Barchetta bodywork by Milan’s Touring, although several cars built in 1953 received Vignale bodies. Almost every 166 MM differed: some had bonnet air intakes, while windscreens could have one or two sections.
All Ferrari 166 MM cars used a longitudinally mounted 1,995 cc V12. It produced 140 hp at 6,600 rpm, with top speed no higher than 220 km/h. The Italian car’s two-door open body was aluminium, keeping weight down to just 650 kg. No more than 50 examples of the 166 MM had been assembled by 1955.
