The car’s story
The Ferrari 365 GTB4 was unveiled at the 1968 Paris Motor Show. The number 365 denotes the displacement of a single cylinder, while GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta. The car gained the name Daytona in honour of Ferrari’s victory at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona. The prototype was the work of Pininfarina designer Leonardo Fioravanti. A total of 1,300 examples of the 365 GTB4 were built by 1973.
The supercar had a 4.4-litre Type 251 engine, distinguished by twin overhead camshafts for each cylinder bank. It produced 352 hp at 7,500 rpm, with a maximum speed of no more than 280 km/h.
Among its major styling changes, the 365 GTB4 stood apart from other Ferraris with its noticeably truncated tail. The company fitted Michelin tyres, having previously always preferred Dunlop. It retained the signature round red and orange rear lights, two on each side. The European version had four round headlights behind Plexiglas fairings. Later, like the American versions, it received retractable headlights.
