GAZ-69A with canvas top

The GAZ-69A off-roader was fitted with a carburetted, four-stroke inline four-cylinder engine of 2,120 cc. It produced 55 hp at 3,600 rpm. This was a modified version of the engine from the GAZ-M20 Pobeda.

To use it as effectively as possible, the designers changed the manual gearbox ratios, since the engine spent most of its time running at high revs. An oil cooler and a six-blade fan were also added to prevent overheating. The GAZ-69A’s top speed was consequently no more than 90 km/h, while petrol consumption was around 14 litres per 100 km.
