01 / Maserati

The car’s story

In 2001, Maserati presented the Coupé, the successor to the 3200 GT. The car received updated styling by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign studio and a new engine. Its body closely resembled the 3200 GT, although the rear of the coupé had much in common with the Spyder. The rear-wheel-drive Coupé also inherited the Spyder’s Skyhook system, which adjusted damper stiffness to suit driving conditions using speed sensors on all four wheels.

The Maserati Coupé could be fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox with a twin-plate clutch or the Cambiocorsa automated manual transmission with an electrohydraulically operated clutch. Ferrari had developed the aluminium 4,244 cc V8 used in the Coupé for the Spyder. It produced 390 PS at 7,000 rpm, delivering a top speed of 285 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
