Moskvich G5

Sports car from 1969. Manufactured by Moskvich (USSR).

The Moskvich-G5 racing car made its debut in 1969. It had a Moskvich-412 engine with two overhead camshafts, a five-speed gearbox and independent five-link rear suspension. Other features included rack-and-pinion steering, a tubular spaceframe and two twin-choke horizontal Weber-4SDKО carburettors. The car was upgraded several times: notably, the aluminium body was replaced by a fibreglass one, drum brakes gave way to discs, and a more highly tuned engine and wider tyres were fitted.

The Moskvich-G5 and its upgraded Moskvich-G5M version (whose differing figures are shown in brackets) won three gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the USSR circuit-racing championships.
