The car’s story
In 1936, the Izhora plant designed the BA-6M armoured car, a heavily modernised BA-6 on a GAZ-AAA chassis shortened by 600 mm. In April 1937, the Red Army’s Main Military Council approved series production under the BA-10 designation. The first vehicles rolled off the line in 1938, and 3,331 had been built by 1941. Improvements during production brought new designations: BA-10A, BA-10M and BA-10Ts, the latter with a case-hardened armour hull.
Armour thickness: hull front and sides, 10 mm; rear, 6–10 mm; roof, 6 mm; floor, 4 mm; turret, 10 mm.
The vehicle used a liquid-cooled GAZ M-1 inline four-cylinder carburettor engine. It displaced 3,280 cc and produced 40 hp (29.4 kW) at 2,200 rpm.
Crew: 4; combat weight: 5.12 tonnes; maximum speed: 53 km/h; range: 300 km. Main armament: a 45 mm 20K gun, model 1934, and two 7.62 mm DT machine guns, model 1929. Ammunition carried: 49 gun rounds and 2,079 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
