GAZ-13 Chaika Black

The GAZ-13 was developed under Gorky Automobile Plant chief designer A. D. Prosvirin. N. A. Yumashev was lead engineer, while designer B. B. Lebedev created its exterior.

It used an X-shaped backbone frame without side rails. Independent front wishbone suspension had two coil springs; the rigid rear suspension used two longitudinal semi-elliptic leaf springs. Both had telescopic hydraulic dampers. Front disc and rear drum brakes used two hydraulic circuits and a vacuum booster, each circuit acting on one front and one rear wheel. The automatic transmission was controlled by buttons to the left of the steering column.
