KIM-10-51

The KIM-10-51 was a phaeton based on the two-door KIM-10-50 coupé. Its production was driven not by the authorities’ desire to let people tour the country with the wind in their hair, but simply by a shortage of metal for bodies with a fixed roof.

The climate, too, favoured open-top motoring only in the southern regions of the USSR.

During the base model’s entire production period, from 1940 to 1941, no more than ten open-bodied cars were built, although plans called for fifteen thousand. The KIM-10-51’s main structural differences from its American reference vehicle, the two-door Ford Prefect Touring phaeton, were separate front seats, a more modest interior, a V-shaped windscreen, no running boards, revised headlights and a straighter body-side line.
