The car’s story
Production of the four-wheel-drive Moskvich-410 began in 1957. The car was considered promising and in demand, but a change in the leadership of the Soviet automotive industry led to the project being closed.
It was Khrushchev himself who had encouraged the engineers to develop this car, intending to provide collective farmers with comfortable off-road vehicles. The resulting Moskvich-410 4×4 could ford water up to half a metre deep while offering a reasonably comfortable interior with just as much room as the donor car.
Ground clearance beneath the front and rear axles of this off-road version of the Moskvich-402 was 220 mm, while the distance between the underside and the ground around the body’s perimeter was about 430 mm. The 410 was succeeded by the 410N and later the 411. A total of 7,580 cars were built over five years.
