Volga M21 1958

The Volga 21 cost 17,400 pre-reform roubles, with a waiting list stretching over several years. Two-tone cars were particularly prized and cost extra. The fashion for two-tone bodywork reached GAZ through Ford models.

The elegant combination of ivory and ripe cherry came from the same source. Many Volga 21 owners repainted their cars themselves in their garages.

There were four ways of dividing the painted surfaces. The main colour covered the area from the engine bay to the rear apron, along with the bonnet and boot lid. The second colour was applied to doors and wings below the side pressing. The rear “haunches”, comprising part of the rear door and wing above the wheel arch, could also be highlighted. The roof could be painted another colour from the base of the rear pillar upwards.
