The car’s story
Škoda and Laurin & Klement merged in 1925, and their first joint car was the L&K 100. Assembly of the 110 also began in 1925. It was an updated version of the 100, which had established a reputation for quality and reliability. Initially the car had a conventional body, but the L&K Škoda 110 was almost immediately adapted for carrying goods, with a pickup-van variant.
It was fitted with a 1,771 cc four-cylinder SV, or side-valve, engine. In 1926, the 110 received a more powerful 1,944 cc engine previously used in the 120. The car was intended as inexpensive transport for people and goods, aimed at middle-class buyers, since there was little demand for expensive, powerful cars after the war.
When it acquired Laurin & Klement, Škoda had been making cars for only a year. From 1924 it assembled luxurious Škoda-Hispano-Suizas under a French licence; the first went to Czechoslovak president Masaryk. The car had a 6.6-litre six-cylinder engine producing 100 hp.
