The car’s story
The LFA became the first supercar in the Lexus range. Work on the expensive, high-speed sports coupé began in 1998, undertaken by a team of engineers led by Haruhito Tanahashi. The best available engineering solutions and materials were used. Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic was chosen for the body. The first prototypes were ready by late 2003, but the LF-A prototype did not make its world premiere until the 2005 Detroit Motor Show. Another prototype appeared two years later, followed in Detroit in 2008 by a possible LFA roadster version. The two-seat, rear-wheel-drive Lexus LFA made its world premiere at the 2008 Tokyo Motor Show.
The LFA used a 40-valve, 4,805 cc V10. The engine was made from aluminium, with some components in magnesium and titanium. Maximum output was 560 hp at 8,700 rpm, while peak torque of 480 Nm arrived at 7,000 rpm. Acceleration to 100 km/h took just 3.7 seconds, and top speed was 325 km/h. A total of 500 LFAs were produced from 2010. The supercar was assembled by hand at Toyota’s Motomachi facility.
